For each section:
1. Champion: HK$3,000 and trophy
2. First Runner-up : HK$1,500 and trophy
3. Second Runner-up : HK$1,000 and trophy
Each participant/participating team in any sections will receive a certificate.
Winner: HK$3,000 and trophy, and the chance of an artist contract as a soloist with the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra.
(The offer is subject to the final decision of the Organizer.)
Each participating team is limited to a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 50 persons. For choreography of actions, participating teams may choose any combination from Routine 1 to Routine 24 of the original and the new versions of Hong Kong Synergy 24 Drumming Routines, or rearrange the drum scores based on Hong Kong Synergy 24 Drumming Routines. The duration must not exceed 6 minutes. (Please specify the chosen Routine title)
* The registration fee will be waived if the participating team comes from a special school/ rehabilitation organization/ charity which is registered in Hong Kong. Participants must be people with special needs or in rehabilitation. Please submit a copy of certified documents along with the application form. If any member in the team is not a person with special needs or in rehabilitation, we will still accept the application for the competition, but the team will not be awarded any prize.
# If a participant / participating team uses too many percussion instruments that do not belong to the Chinese drum section, the panel of judges may deduct its points or render the team disqualified.
Participants must be over 60 years of age or belong to a registered organization for the elderly. Each participating team is limited to a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 50 persons. For choreography of actions, participating teams may choose any combination from Routine 1 to Routine 24 of the original and the new versions of Hong Kong Synergy 24 Drumming Routines, or rearrange the drum scores based on Hong Kong Synergy 24 Drumming Routines. *** Participants must have no previous record of winning any prizes in the past sessions of the Hong Kong Synergy 24 Drum Competition.
a. Rolling Walnuts by Wang Baocan and Hao Shixun
Each participating team should consist of no less than 4 members. They must use the drum score provided by the Organizer. Any improvisatory change may render the team disqualified.
b. The Ox Fighting the Tiger by Wang Guojie, arranged by Wang Baocan.
Each participating team should consist of no less than 2 members. They must use the drum score provided by the Organizer. Any improvisatory change may render the team disqualified.
c. Flying Dragon and Jumping Tiger (Excerpts) by Li Minxiong, compiled by Yim Hok Man and Chin Kwok Wai.
Each participating team should consist of no less than 5 members. The performance must the drum score provided by the Organizer. Any improvisatory change may render the team disqualified.
Each participating team is limited to a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 50 persons. Participating teams may choose any drum score or devise his/her own score without limitation to the routines and choreography of actions. The performance must use drums as the major instrument*, but it can also be accompanied on a few percussion instruments. The duration must not exceed 7 minutes.
- Participants can participate in different teams of the Creative Presentation Section, but the repertoire must not be the same.
- The arranger of the awarded ‘Best Arrangement’ will sign a co-operation agreement with the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra. The agreement also includes that the same participants/team cannot use the same arrangement work to take part in the Competition in the future. (Can use the same team name, but constituent members must be different.)
* Chinese drums, lion dance drums, Japanese drums, African drums
(This is open to all drummers who have reached professional standards.)
This section is for individuals. Participating teams may choose any drum score or devise his/her own score without limitation to the routines and choreography of actions. The performance must use drums as the major instrument, but it can also be accompanied on a few percussion instruments. The duration should not exceed 7 minutes.
- Before 24 August 2016, each participant should mail the video tape of his/her performance (must not have any editing and special effects) to the Organizer for an audition. Chosen participants will be informed to take part in the Competition held in Hong Kong.# If a participant / participating team uses too many percussion instruments that do not belong to the Chinese drum section, the panel of judges may deduct its points or render the team disqualified.
1. Each school/organization may have more than one team participating in the event, but constituent members in each must be different. (Except for Creative Presentation Section and ‘King of Drums’ Challenge)
2. Each participating team may choose any combination of Chinese drums, regardless of size and type. However, only Chinese drums may be used. Drums of any other ethnic origins will not be accepted. (Except for Special School and Rehabilitation Organization Section, Senior Section, Creative Presentation Section and ‘King of Drums’ Challenge)
3. Participating teams may design their own costumes, group formations and staging of their performance, subject to the final approval of the HKCO.
4. All participating teams should submit the newly arranged scores to the Organizer 2 weeks before the competition for their reference. (Except for Designated Repertoire Section)
5. The Organizer reserves the right not to give out awards in a category if the panel of judges has decided that none of the entries has met the required standard. The Organizer has the final authority to determine whether an entry is eligible or not.
** The Organizer reserves the right to disqualify any participant/participating team for violation of the above.

1. Completed Registration Forms should be submitted with a registration fee of HK$300 (to be EITHER in the form of a cheque made payable to "Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra Limited" OR by direct deposit into the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra's banking account at Hang Seng Bank: 388-487-688-001).
2. Please send your Registration Form together with your cheque or pay-in slip by mail or in person to: The Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, 7th Floor, Sheung Wan Municipal Services Building, 345 Queen's Road Central, Hong Kong.
3. Music scores and video demonstrations for both versions of Hong Kong Synergy 24 Drumming Routines (in VCD format) and the New Hong Kong Synergy 24 Drumming Routines (in DVD format) will be available from the Organizer. If needed, teams performing the Compulsory Scores of Rolling Walnuts, The Ox Fighting the Tiger and Flying Dragon and Leaping Tiger may request for the relevant scores from the Organizer.
