The Chinese Orchestra of Zhejiang Conservatory of Music

The Chinese Orchestra of Zhejiang Conservatory of Music is a Chinese orchestra with a full-size configuration of bowed-strings, plucked-strings, wind and percussion instruments. The Conservatory is a publicly funded, full-time general college founded by the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province and endorsed by the Ministry of Education of China. The campus is in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, a place where the G20 summit was held. It has eight departments, namely composition and composition art theory, musicology, music performance, dance studies, dance performance, choreography, general performance, and music technology and arts. It has entered into bilateral partnership agreements with the Mozarteum University of Salzburg of Austria and the Royal Academy of Music and Royal Northern College of Music of the UK.

The current Company Director is Professor Du Rusong, famous dizi virtuoso and Head of the Department of Chinese Music, and the Associate Director is Professor Xu Yi, renowned erhu virtuoso. Professor Wu Qiang, notable conductor of Chinese music, has been invited to be the Resident Conductor. The musicians are made up of young faculty members at the Conservatory as the core, and outstanding students in their respective specialisms as the orchestral corps. Since its establishment, the orchestra has performed in gala events like the G20 Summit. In October 2016, it held a concert in the Czech Republic and Austria, and in March 2017, at the National Centre for the Performing Arts and Peking University in Beijing to audience acclaim.
