Yuan Ke is a yangqin (Chinese dulcimer) virtuoso, and holds a position as one of the executive members on the Chinese Yangqin Professional Committee.
He began learning the yangqin at four under the famous teacher Chen Fumin, and was formally trained at the middle school affiliated to the Central Conservatory of Music and the Conservatory proper under Huang He. He gave a solo concert in 2001.
Yuan was the winner of a Class One Award at the first Ethnic Instrumental Music Competition of the Central Conservatory of Music, a Class Two Award at the second Dragon’s Cup Traditional Instrument Competition, and another Class One Award at the first Ethnic Instrumental Music Competition of Chengdu, Sichuan. He was listed in A Dictionary of Chinese Musicians in 2008.
Yuan has performed in many parts of the world, and was part of the delegation led by the former President Hu Jintao to the Republic of Uzbekistan to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit. He was also on the delegation to Russia led by the former Vice Premier of the State, Li Lanqing, on which
occasion he performed at the St. Petersburg Conservatory named after N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov and the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory.
